English Premier League 2023 Schedule
The 2023 English Premier League Is Starting Soon
The Premier League 2023-24 season dates have been confirmed, with the campaign starting on Friday 11 August 2023, and ending on Sunday 19 May 2024.
The season schedule returns to normal following the COVID-19 pandemic and the FIFA World Cup 2022, which provided disruption during the previous three seasons.
In keeping with commitments made to clubs this season to address the congested schedule across Christmas and New Year, no two rounds in this period will take place within 48 hours of each other. As such, the schedule also provides for a return of the mid-season player break, where the 10 matches will be split over the weekends of 13-20 January.
The season will consist of 34 weekends, three mid-week rounds, and one Bank Holiday match round. The start date of Friday 11 August allows 75 clear days from the end of the 2022/23 season.
With the Premier League finishing on 19 May 2024, it will also allow players to rest between the end of the season and the international fixtures in June.
Will We See A New Premier League Champion?
Twenty teams will compete in the league – the top seventeen teams from the previous season and the three teams promoted from the Championship. These teams are Burnley, Sheffield United, and Luton Town, who will return to the top flight after respective absences of one, two, and thirty-one years.
This will also be Luton Town's first season in the Premier League. With their promotion, they will become the first team to have been promoted from non-league (5th tier or lower within the English football league pyramid) to the top flight during the Premier League era. They will replace Leicester City, Leeds United, and Southampton, who were relegated to the Championship after respective spells of nine, three, and eleven years in the top flight.
Manchester City is the three-time defending champion and will have a chance to become the first English football club to win four titles in a row.
Transfer Windows And Winter Breaks
This season will be the third to feature a winter break, with no Premier League matches scheduled between 13 and 30 January 2024.
The Premier League confirmed that the summer transfer window will open on 14 June 2023 and will close at 23:00 BST on 1 September 2023. The Premier League's winter window will open on 1 January 2024 and will close at 23:00 GMT on 1 February 2024.
